Canker Sores

Saltwater can be used to rinse your mouth and reduce pain. Mix a teaspoonful of salt in a cup of water. Swish, then spit. Repeat this process several times daily until your canker sores stop bothering you.

Ingrown Toenail

This happens when your skin becomes trapped by the toenail’s edge. This can often happen to the big toe and cause severe pain. Warm salt water can be used to reduce swelling and tenderness. Apply antibiotic cream and a bandage. If it persists or becomes worse, see your doctor.

Eczema and Psoriasis

Saltwater rich in minerals is found in places such as the Dead Sea in the Middle East or the Blue Lagoon, Iceland. This water is good for the skin as it helps reduce redness and moisturize. It can also reduce inflammation and scaly patches in cases of eczema or psoriasis. Add Epsom salts or Dead Sea salts to your bath and let it soak for 15 minutes. Eczema can be relieved by adding a cup of table salt to your bathwater.

Heartburn

Baking soda can be considered a salt substitute and a natural anti-inflammatory. After eating, mix about one teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of cold water. Do not continue treating heartburn if it is frequent. To make sure that there is nothing else, consult a doctor. Keep in mind that baking soda contains sodium. Your doctor may recommend a different type of antacid if you are on a low salt diet.
